8 Awkward Questions About The Opportunity Tree You Never Asked Out Loud<br />

We totally get it!  When it comes to donating, you might wonder where exactly your dollars end up.  That is a great question and on this GivingTuesday, December 3rd, we’re here to answer those “awkward” but important questions! Let’s dive into it:

1. Why Should I Donate Specifically on GivingTuesday?

Answer: GivingTuesday is more than just a day of giving; it’s a global event that amplifies the impact of generosity. By donating during the week of GivingTuesday, your contribution is part of something bigger, with the potential of matching funds and heightened community awareness. It’s the best day to make your dollar go further and speak louder!

2. What Will The Opportunity Tree Do With My Donation?

Answer: Every dollar we receive helps individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities lead lives that are independent, self-fulfilling, and integrated in the community. Your donation directly funds essential program components like professional working uniforms for our SEEDS supported employment services, community experiences for our Tree Fort youth Members, new team jerseys for our Fireslammers Special Olympics Athletes, and moreIn short, your donation goes directly to increasing quality of life for our Members!

3. If You Get State Funding, Why Do You Need More Donations?

Answer: Great question!  While state funding covers our basic operational costs and front line employee wages, it doesn’t fund the comprehensive, life-changing programs we’re known for. Shirts & ties for our Members to look sharp at job interviews, care package supplies for our Kiwanis aKtion Club volunteer projects, professional yoga classes, and admission costs for museums, theater performances, & sports games, are just a few examples of how your support is impactful!

4. What’s in It for Me If I Donate?

Answer:In addition to the satisfaction of making a real difference in your community, Arizona residents can take advantage of the Arizona Charitable Tax Credit! For every dollar you donate to The Opportunity Tree, you can receive a dollar-for-dollar credit on your state taxes—up to $470 for individuals and $938 for couples. It’s a win-win: support our Members and you can get your donation BACK when you do your taxes*!*Be sure to check with your accounting professional for guidance.

5.  Why Should I Choose The Opportunity Tree Over Another Nonprofit?

Answer:We know there are many wonderful organizations out there doing incredible work. What sets us apart is our holistic approach, and wraparound services for people with disabilities at every stage of life. We support Members as young as 3 years old through in-home supports, teens in our afterschool/summer youth programs, adults at our campus and community based day programs, job seekers of all ages seeking competitive, integrated employment, seniors in our Supported Aging programs, and Members of all ages seeking community residential supports. Our programs & services promote independence, community involvement, and personal growth and every dollar you give stays local, making a lasting impact right here in our very own communities.

6. What’s the Impact of My Donation, Really?

Answer: Your donation creates success stories like Jacob, who is preparing to enter the workforce with newfound confidence, and Elizabeth, whose artistic talents have blossomed through our programs. We make sure every dollar is used to create opportunities that transform lives.

7. How Can I Get Involved Beyond Just Donating?

Answer: We love this question! You can spread the word about our mission, follow us on social media, roll out an internship, or volunteer your time at our events. Every bit of support helps amplify our impact and creates more opportunities for our Members.

8. Can You Share a Story That Shows the Difference My Donation Makes?

Answer: Absolutely! Take Cory, a longtime Member in our Community Living and Supported Aging program. With the soul of an adventurer, Cory spreads joy daily with her love of exploring new things. After 20 years at The Opportunity Tree, she now enjoys enriching activities, from spending time in nature to traveling and discovering exciting places. By donating, you give Cory and other Members the opportunity to continue experiencing the joy of nature outings and the thrill of travel and exploration.
